The final week of classes!

THOUGHTS HEADING INTO OUR FINAL WEEK IN GUATEMALA:
Friday was the day it all became real -- Lisa and I will be Honduras residents in less than a week. Sure, we have anticipated the move for several months, but for whatever reason, it now seems immediate and permanent.
Saturday, Dec. 16, we fly from Guatemala City, briefly stop in El Salvador and then land in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Three of our sons, and a fiance, will meet us there, flying from Boston, North Dakota and Tennessee (the fourth son and fiance will arrive a few days later).
We will get into a minibus and drive about three hours over incredibly bad roads through improvised villages and pueblos and arrive in our new hometown -- Santa Rosa de Copan.
There we will all spend the holidays together by getting settled, including moving furniture and other belongings into our house. While it might not seem like a super vacation, we will be super excited as we open unwrapped presents (unpack boxes).
Our new life will then soon include working and volunteering for Mission UpReach (https://missionupreach.org).
What a journey this has been -- and will continue to be. We are a bit sad about leaving Antigua and the many friends we have made here in our Spanish immersion school, but we are excited to leave because we have felt for the past several months that we were being called to Santa Rosa de Copan. Some of our friends in the States will have a difficult time understanding what we mean about being "called" -- other's will comprehend exactly what it means.
Lisa and I have always felt a need to help people. On occasion it was easy to do so in the United States. Other times not so much, for various reasons. But there has always been something special about "giving back."
From the first day we visited Honduras we knew a great opportunity had been presented, and it continues to grow in our hearts. We know we need to share the gifts and talents God has given to us.
We are not Saints. Never will be. Nor do we entertain any thoughts about being "holier than thou." We commit sins, like all people, but our desire to help others in a more active way was awakened by God  -- and we are following His call.
Whether you understand our mission -- or think we are crazy -- we ask only one thing from our friends and acquaintances. If you pray, do so diligently for us and that God's will be done. Please keep us in your hearts and minds.
"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us." -- 1 John 5:13
