During this past week I had to write (in Spanish) an essay about foods I liked and disliked. I started out by claiming that I am not a picky eater (that's my story and I'm sticking to it! -- though John definitely disagrees), and that I really do like a lot of different foods, BUT... how they are cooked, and texture, and looks, and smells, oh and then there is my severe aversion to tuna... Well, admittedly I have not always been happy with the food options these past 5 weeks, but I am not complaining as I have dropped some weight. Which goes to prove we should all look for the good in every situation. There is always something to be thankful for!
When the calendar turns from October to November, it seems many of us get nostalgic and reflect on things for which we are thankful. I know, without a doubt, that I am blessed! The abundance and depth for all that we have is ever-so-evident as we continue this journey and have stripped away much of the hustle and bustle, "stuff," and are able to see life through a different set of lenses. I am content and able to recognize more clearly the details I often overlooked or took for granted.
So, I joke sometimes about our current living quarters and John now having to put up with me pretty much 24/7 while we are here in Guatemala, but the good news is I have a wonderful husband who knows my very essence, can read my emotions and who buys me a treat from the panaderia occasionally when I've had a few days of "differently cooked" foods.
November 12th marks the anniversary of when John and I were married -- oh so many years ago! These words were part of our vows and ones I hold dearly in my heart:
1 Corinthians 13:7 (Love) bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
John Irby, I am so happy we're on this (sometimes crazy) adventure together and thankful for every added day and year ahead.
